Footy Finals and AFL Supreme 2006 Series

Wow… what a month it has been since I wrote to you last.

The footy action has been fantastic in both the AFL and NRL. It appears the Top 8 have made their break and left the others to begin planning for next year.

Finals footy is just around the corner and I love this time of year… it’s full of excitement and expectation!

The other thing I’ve been excited about recently is the new AFL “Supreme” Series which was released by Select on July 21st.

The Supreme Series consists of:

Mark Ricciuto All Australian Captain

Dean Cox All Australian

Barry Hall All Australian

  • Gary Ablett
  • Graham “Polly” Farmer
  • Anthony Rocca
  • Scott West, and
  • Ben Cousins
Anthony Rocca Signature Redemption
Ben Cousins Signature Redemption

With just 100 signature cards personally signed by each player these have proved hugely popular. Some of these cards have reached sale prices over $800 already and they’re only a few weeks old!

The other exciting addition to the Supreme collection is the all new Brownlow Predictor cards, which are described in the “Card Spotlight” section of this issue.

If you’re looking for a great Father’s Day present for Dad you can find the 2006 Supreme Series in our store at:

http://www.footystars.com.au/store/afl-c-22.html

The 2006 NRL Invincible Series has also been selling well, with NRL fans quick to grab the new Jersey Die Cut inserts along with Team Sets of their favourite team.

Without any further ado, welcome to the second issue of the Footy Stars “Collectors Edition” newsletter. I hope you enjoy reading it in full.

Regards,

Ian

Brownlow Predictor Cards

The ALL New Brownlow Predictors in AFL Supreme. The concept is simple, and it is borrowed from the Premiership Predictors of previous years.

There are 32 Brownlow Predictor cards in the set, each one featuring a different player, although card #32 is a replacement card.

Each player has only 100 cards released and each one is individually numbered on the reverse side.

If your Brownlow Predictor matches the eventual Brownlow Medal winner, you are entitled to redeem a limited edition 2006 Brownlow Medalist Signature card, personally signed by that player!

This is a fantastic way for you to get your hands on a very valuable Brownlow Medal Signature card — which are typically valued at well over $400.

According to the TAB SportsBet website the current favourites in the Brownlow race are:

Simon Goodwin Chris Judd Brownlow Predictor

The replacement card has been included just in case a dark horse emerges from the pack to claim the prize.

If someone other than a player with their own predictor wins the Brownlow, the replacement card is the card you need. Think of it like a “Wild Card”.

Most people who have been in touch with me over the last 4 weeks are trying to get the predictors of the players who they think will win… but there is another type of collector out there too.

The High End Collectors are aiming to collect the FULL set of Brownlow Predictors… ALL 32 cards, knowing that when they succeed they will be one of only a handful of people able to do it.

This type of collector is different because they value having a complete set of ALL cards released in the series.

By ALL I mean:

And that’s not all… let’s not forget the 4 promo cards, the flyer and the official folder because they’re sure to want these too.

Whichever way you collect these cards, we encourage you to keep in mind our first rule of collecting:

“Have fun. Collect for fun, not for profit.”

If you want to see the Promotional Flyer for the Supreme Series I’ve included it here:

http://FootyStars.com.au/Free_Stuff/SupremeFlyer.pdf

Important note… if you are lucky enough to have the predictor of the eventual Brownlow Medal winner, please follow the instructions on the back of the card very carefully because they are not the same as Select’s other redemption cards.

The address to send the card to is Select’s actual PO Box not the usual MailGuard Services PO Box.

Not sure why the difference, but please keep it in mind for your own protection.

Bustin’ Out… Franky Reigns Supreme!

This month’s Bustin’ Out story comes from a friend of mine, Franky.

Franky purchased a case of AFL Supreme (that’s 12 boxes) and was lucky enough to bust out these great cards along with a few others not mentioned.

Anthony Rocca Signature Redemption Chris Judd Brownlow Predictor Simon Goodwin Scott Pendlebury Draft Pick

Coming from a family of Collingwood fans Franky was over the moon with excitement in finding not just the Rocca card but also the number 5 Draft Pick Pendlebury.

Congratulations Franky!

Reliable Footy Card Dealers… What To Look For

You will remember from our last issue that we covered our 5 rules of card collecting. If you can’t remember the rules please visit http://www.FootyStars.com.au and read the article on the first page. If you’ve got a good memory, you’ll recall that Rule #3 is:

“Look everywhere until you find reliable sources or dealers with whom you are comfortable”.

I received yet another reminder last week that eBay can sometimes be a tough, unfair and unscrupulous market place for unwary buyers.

The reminder came from a customer of mine who was buying cards for her son and his little mate on eBay.

To keep a long story short, she found what she wanted with what seemed like a price that was too good to be true. Sadly, it was too good to be true. :(

After successfully bidding the highest price, she paid for the item by sending a Money Order (the only payment option allowed) and then waited for the cards to arrive.

She waited…

and waited…

and waited…

She emailed the seller…

and waited…

and waited some more.

After almost three weeks, and no response she completed the eBay dispute process.

Unfortunately in this case the seller is no longer registered with eBay, and the chances of getting her cards OR her money back are slim at best.

It’s sad, but it proves it can happen.

In the words of this mother:

“I was so glad to find your site. My son had been looking for months to find the cards he wanted, and after my eBay experience I was glad to deal with a legitimate business that won’t disappear overnight”.

So to put your mind at ease, and reassure you that we are here to stay for the long term… We are a registered company (IET pty ltd, ACN: 101 865 678) and we have been in existence for over 4 years. Our trading name (Footy Stars) is registered in NSW.

We have applied for and are awaiting final approval for trademark registration of our name and logo (update: this has now been registered and protected under the Trademark Act). We have invested a lot of time and money in establishing this company for the benefit of our customers and we plan on being in business for a long long time.

To further put your mind at ease we have our own comprehensive Refund Policy and Guarantee.

In short it says:

“If for any reason you are unhappy with the condition or quality of any purchased product you receive from Footy Stars or if it is faulty or does not arrive as described we will happily exchange the item or refund your money”.

We want YOU to be happy.

If you want to read the entire refund policy, click here…

Our concern for you doesn’t stop there however… the Footy Stars web site is secured with GeoTrust’s 128-bit True BusinessID SSL Certificate which utilises the highest level of security encryption possible. This keeps all your transaction info safe and secure.

We also aim to provide you with convenient payment options. Not everyone is comfortable using a credit card over the internet (as safe as it is now days), and we understand and appreciate this.

In our store you can choose to Direct Deposit funds in to our bank account (online or over the counter in a branch), you can send a Cheque or Money Order, or you can use the very popular PayPal system. We can also accept Mastercard and Visa payments. Choose whichever option suits you.

If you do buy from eBay, try to stick to well know sellers who have been selling for a long time. Review their feedback ratings and if in doubt, ask them a question before bidding.

We hope this helps to keep you safe in your search for reliable sellers and dealers.

By the way, if you ever want to get in touch with us please feel free to call us on 02 9639 1889 or 0417 228 640, or use this contact form to email us.

Ultra Pro Top Loaders

Once you’ve got your cards — particularly your more valuable cards you’ll probably want to keep them in good condition.

One of the most popular ways to protect your cards is to use Top Loaders. The best kind of Top Loaders are made by Ultra Pro.

Top Loaders Regular Thick Top Loaders for Thick Cards

Top Loaders are made from a clear semi-rigid plastic and they are especially made for trading cards. By semi-rigid I mean they bend — but only a little. Being clear they still allow you to view both sides of your card.

One card fits in a single Top Loader.

They are popular because rather than letting your little brother, the family dog or your own oily fingertips damage the card, the Top Loader keeps the card safe.

The semi-rigid Top Loader also makes it less likely that your card will be creased or folded, and it protects the sides and corners from damage.

Best used in conjunction with a Platinum Card Sleeve (a small plastic sleeve that covers the card before you insert it into the Top Loader), Top Loaders are a MUST HAVE item for your more valuable cards.
