Series 2 - 2007 Footy Cards Almost Here

THEY ARE ALMOST HERE…

That’s right, they are almost here… the Premium Quality Series 2 release from Select!

NRL fans have a short nine day wait, while AFL fans will have to keep patient for 21 more days.

The NRL Footy Cards are scheduled for release on Tuesday, 3 July and the AFL Footy Cards are due for release on Monday, 16 July.

Details were only released yesterday by Select and we’re proud to bring it to you first!

The NRL Series will again be called “Invincible” and the AFL will again be called “Supreme”.

NRL 2007 Invincible AFL 2007 Supreme

Each base set is made up of 195 cards in total, that is one logo and 11 player cards per team, plus three checklist cards as well.

The Recommended Retail Price is just $4.99 a packet, and for AFL fans — this is the first time EVER that the Premium Quality Series 2 packs have been under $5 bucks.

With 36 packets in each Box, that makes the RRP on a box $179.64.

We will be offering Box sales for the first time this year and we will be able to do it for less than the RRP above. I will let you know as soon as we have got them available on our site.

This month’s Card Spotlight section goes into great detail to explain the various Insert Sets that are included in the Series 2 release… but the good news is…

SIGNATURES ARE BACK!

There are Top Prospect Signatures, Draft Pick Signatures, and at least 4 Signature Redemptions in both the AFL and NRL releases.

Of course the BEST part about all these Signature Redemptions is they ARE REAL Signatures… HAND SIGNED by the players themselves so you can be sure they are FAR more valuable than the machine printed signatures from the Champions Series released earlier this year.

In the last issue I was pretty critical of Select and I explained why I thought they had done the wrong thing — especially with the printed signatures.

However, having seen the advanced detail on the Series 2 releases… I think if anyone asked me if I thought Select were back on the right track?

I’m certain my answer would be a resounding YES.

You can make up your own mind… but I think we’re going to be very happy with the next release from Select.

If you want to see the Promotional Flyer for the 2007 NRL Invincible Series I’ve included it here (1 meg in size):

NRL Invincible 2007
http://FootyStars.com.au/Free_Stuff/NRL07InvincibleFlyer.pdf

Unfortunately the AFL flyer has not yet been released. We will be back in touch as more information comes to hand and to let you know when the AFL flyer is available to view.

Until then, enjoy the rest of the newsletter. It’s an exciting time of year when a new release is about to hit the market.

Regards,

Ian

Everything You Need To Know About 2007 Footy Cards

Ok… let’s get into the nitty gritty detail and learn why this next release is going to be so much better than the Champions Series released earlier in the year.

NRL 2007 Invincible Series - Premium Quality Hobby Set

This series is due for release on Tuesday, 3 July 2007… only nine days away.

Each packet contains nine cards plus one Footy Face Jersey Die Cut Card. Other Insert cards are randomly inserted into packs at various ratios as explained below.

The series consists of the following sub sets:

Like previous years, if you can collect the entire set of 16 Premiership Predictor Cards you can send them into Select to redeem one of only 350 NRL Enforcers Sets, plus the usual Premiership Mini Set for the 2007 Premiers.

This year the Top Prospect Signature cards are more strictly limited to 350 cards each… much better than the 500 last year.

There are also two different kinds of Signature Redemption Cards in this NRL Series.

NRL 2006 Medalists Signature Redemptions:

  • 2 cards — Strictly Limited to only 120 cards each

These cards feature Cameron Smith, the Dally M Best and Fairest Medal Winner from the Melbourne Storm and Nathan Hindmarsh the Provan Summons (Fans Choice) Medal Winner from the Parramatta Eels.

Nathan Hindmarsh Signature

The second of the Signature Redemptions included in the 2007 Invincible Series is the “NRL Force” Signature Redemptions:

  • 2 cards — Strictly Limited to only 110 cards each

These NRL Force Signatures feature two exciting players each capable of turning a game in the blink of an eye… Matt Bowen from the North Queensland Cowboys and Rhys Wesser from the Penrith Panthers.

Matt Bowen Force Redemption Rhys Wesser Force Redemption

With only 110 of each of these REAL signature cards available I predict they will be in high demand, especially since each player has a strong following — not only in their club but from NRL fans as a whole.

There are also two different Case Cards in this 2007 Invincible Series, but unfortunately we haven’t been told who they will feature. I will be sure to let you know in our next email.

If you’re not sure what Case Cards are, I’ve explained it all below — in the AFL section.

A reminder the NRL 2007 Invincible Flyer can be viewed at:
http://FootyStars.com.au/Free_Stuff/NRL07InvincibleFlyer.pdf

Only 9 days to go until they are released… we don’t have to wait that long.
AFL 2007 Supreme Series - Premium Quality Hobby Set

As I mentioned in the previous section, these are due for release on Monday, 16 July.

Each packet contains nine cards plus one of 34 “Hall of Fame Series 3” cards. Other Insert cards are randomly inserted into packs at various ratios as explained below.

The series consists of the following sub sets:

There are also two different kinds of Signature Redemption Cards in this Series.

2006 Medalists Signature Redemptions:

  • 4 cards — Strictly Limited to only 100 cards each

Select haven’t yet identified the players featured in this sub set but we expect them to include:

  • Adam Goodes - Brownlow Medalist
  • Andrew Embley - Norm Smith Medalist
  • Brendan Fevola - Coleman Medalist
  • Danyle Pearce - Rising Star Award Winner for 2006
Brendan Fevola Medalist Signature Chris Judd Medalist Signature

The second of the Signature Redemptions included in the 2007 Supreme Series is the “Hall of Fame Legends” Signature Redemptions:

  • 2 cards — Strictly Limited to only 110 cards each

These Hall of Fame Legends will feature Richmond Champion Kevin Bartlett and St Kilda Great Darrel Baldock.

There are also three different Case Cards in this 2007 Supreme Series. They will feature three players who have played in more than 300 games — a magical mark achieved by only the best and most durable champions of the game.

This year the Case Cards feature Bombers legend Tim Watson who played 307 games for Essendon, Len Thompson the Collingwood star who also served time with South Melbourne and Fitzroy as he reached 301 games, and finally Glenn Archer the Kangaroos stalwart who will reach the 300 game mark next weekend against the Western Bulldogs on July 1st.

Glenn Archer Case Card Len Thompson Case Card

 Tim Watson Case Card

As you probably know, Case Cards are only found in a Factory Sealed Case. A case contains 12 Boxes of cards and each box contains 36 Packets.

This makes them relatively scarce for two reasons.

Firstly, they will be low in number (I reckon they will be limited to 175 or 180 cards each), and secondly, very few people will be able to get them straight out of the case. It’s usually only dealers and high end collectors who purchase a full case of cards because they are worth over $2150 a case which puts it out of the range of most collectors.

Don’t worry though… we will be making our case cards available to purchase either in our Footy Stars store www.FootyStars.com.au/store

And to prove that Select are back on the winning track, they have announced that 50 Signed Case Cards from Len Thompson will be randomly inserted to Factory Sealed cases!

This is sure to be one of the hottest contested cards from the entire release. Limited to only 50 cards and personally signed by Len himself… it will be widely sought after by Collingwood fans and footy card collectors alike.

Lets not forget that Len played for Collingwood between 1965 and 1978, South Melbourne in 1979 and then Fitzroy in 1980.

He played 301 games in total, including 4 Grand Finals. He won the Brownlow in 1972 and represented Victoria on 15 occasions.

He’s already in the Hall of Fame, and I can’t see it being long until he is elevated to legend status.

This card is a sure winner!

That completes this month’s Card Spotlight. You’ve got all the information about the Premium Series 2 release for both NRL and AFL footy cards.

Now all we need to do is wait for their release!

Your Replies From The Last Newsletter

If you read the last issue of this newsletter, you probably remember me going on a “little rant” about the Series 1 release in both the NRL and AFL this year. Both were called the Champions Series and in short — I was disappointed with what we were given.

I shared my reasons for being so disappointed with the Champions Series cards, particularly the PRINTED SIGNATURES in the AFL series… and on a number of occasions I asked for your feedback to see if you agreed or disagreed.

Here are a collection of the responses that we received. As you will see not everyone agreed with me entirely, especially Steph. :-)

——

This from Marilyn in Queensland in reply to the Champions Base Set cards and the Printed Signatures in the AFL release. By the way — Marilyn is a Broncos fan!

“I don’t think the plain set is as good, but long as they are Broncos that’s all right.

I don’t like the sketch cards, they look very plain. The Gem and Champion Award cards are very nice.

About the printed signed cards, I like to get the player themselves, to sign my cards.”

——

This was from Daniel, a subscriber from NZ describing his feelings on the Series 1 Champions Series.

“I too am extremely disappointed. Not so much because there are no signature cards but because there are NO rare cards.

Part of the excitement of card collecting is the suspense of not knowing whether there is a rare card in the pack you are opening.

In the Champions series you know EXACTLY what is in the packs - there are not even 1:72 limited cards. That is crap… and very disappointing.

I really hope this years premium set makes up for it.”

I think your wish will be granted Daniel… as I described in the previous section Select have returned to the Winners track with the 2007 NRL Invincible Series.

——

Dave sent these comments in from Queensland:

“I agree with your assessment of the new cards. I bought a box and an album and I was very disappointed with the look, feel and quality of the cards. The only cards that I did like are the GEM cards.

My daughter tool a Holographic Foil set of the panthers over to the airport the other day to get them autographed and even the players commented on the cards. She felt they (the players) didn’t like them.”

——

Paul from NSW had this to say…

“Just letting you know that your last newsletter was right on the mark, I agree that the 2007 NRL Champions isn’t worth collecting. The only cards that sound like they are worth collecting are the case cards.”

——

And this short reply from Steph which got right to the point:

“I don’t care.”

That was my favourite Steph… thanks for making me laugh and more importantly for reminding me that first and foremost, card collecting should be FUN. I think I was beginning to take myself too seriously. :-)

Thank you to everyone who replied. Unfortunately we couldn’t include every reply we received but as you know we did reply to each person who took the time to write in.

If you want to share your opinion with our subscribers use the comment link below. You don’t necessarily need to agree with my views — just have your say.

What To Do With Redemption Cards?

Here is a little information specifically for our newer card collectors.

We realise that this newsletter is read by a few High End Collectors (who spend thousands of dollars each year) as well as a lot of primary school aged children (who spend their pocket money on footy cards - or their parents money ).

Most readers fall somewhere in between… but this section of the newsletter is aimed purely at our new collectors.

The Topic is Redemption Cards.

I’ve mentioned Redemption Footy Cards a few times so far in this issue and I’m guessing that some of you may not know what they are, and most of you would never have sent in a redemption card.

So let’s explain…

Redemption cards are special cards that are inserted into regular packs.

They are called redemption cards because when you send in your card to Select you will receive “by redemption” a much more valuable card - SO valuable that Select choose NOT to insert it into regular packs!

When you find a redemption card YOU WILL recognise it immediately. The card itself will congratulate you on finding a redemption card and it will explain that it entitles you to a Limited Edition card.

The limited edition cards are often Signature Cards with very low circulation numbers like these ones:

Laurie Daley Redemption Ben Cousins Redemption

To redeem your card with Select, it is extremely important that you carefully follow all the instructions on the card. You need to send your card via post (we recommend Registered Post) to:

Mailguard Services
Locked Bag 11
PO MONA VALE, NSW 2103

As it says on the card, you MUST send your redemption card along with a Stamped Self Addressed Registered Mail envelope. Select advise that failure to follow the instructions as described on the card could mean either a delay in the return of your card, or perhaps even not receiving your card at all.

At Footy Stars we encourage you to carefully follow ALL the instructions as carefully as possible to avoid disappointment.

The thrill of receiving your Redemption Card in the mail is worth the effort… not to mention the value of the card itself.

Next month we would like to once again include the “BUSTIN’ OUT” section. This is the section where you tell us about your best find from bustin’ open packs of footy cards.

With the new release coming out soon, many of our readers will be back in the habit of opening packs of footy cards — riding the emotion, suspense and wonderment of discovering just what cards you have inside.

Please send in your “Bustin’ Out” story to
BustinOut[at]FootyStars.com.au

We will select at least one “Bust” that has been submitted by a subscriber and publish it in the next issue of this newsletter.

Share your success with all the other footy card collectors out there… and tell us what you found inside when you busted open some packs.

Ultra Pro Premium Card Sleeves

This month we discuss Premium Card Sleeves from Ultra Pro.Card Sleeves are a heavy gauge poly-bag that is slightly larger than a footy card.

The sleeve protects your cards from scratches and other surface damage to maintain the card in mint condition.

Card sleeves are really useful for at least two reasons:

Firstly, they are extremely affordable at just $2.95 for a packet of 100 sleeves, but even better is the fact that they fit inside Ultra Pro Top Loaders for even more protection.

Click here to see the Ultra Pro Premium Card Sleeves…

And click here to see the Ultra Pro Top Loaders…

Ultra Pro Premium Card Sleeves Ultra Pro Top Loadere

Another reason Card Sleeves are great for collectors is that they are crystal clear and allow you to see both the front and back of your card, maintaining maximum visibility.

Like all Ultra Pro accessories, Card Sleeves are acid free and contain absolutely no PVC, which as I keep telling you is important for collectors because it means your cards will be protected for many years to come.

Beware of imitations, and trust in the Ultra Pro brand.

If you’re getting ready to purchase the Series 2 NRL and AFL releases AND you’re interested in protecting your cards with Ultra Pro, you can now find all the Ultra Pro Accessories mentioned in this newsletter at great prices on our website at:
